Lincoln Land Community College will host its ninth annual Banned Books Readings from noon to 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 30 in the newly-renovated LLCC Library. The public is invited to attend at no charge.
LLCC students and faculty will read selections from books that have been banned at one time, including “To Kill a Mockingbird,” “The Invisible Man” and “Where the Wild Things Are.”
The event is held in conjunction with Banned Books Week: Celebrating the Freedom to Read which has been observed during the last week of September since 1982. This annual American Library Association observance “celebrates the freedom to choose or the freedom to express one’s opinion even if that opinion might be considered unorthodox or unpopular and stresses the importance of ensuring the availability of those unorthodox or unpopular viewpoints to all who wish to read them.”
